New England Travels Slide Show

Thank your Dear Myrtle. Your Mondays with Myrt 29 Feb 2016  demonstration on embedding a video into your blog, was easy to follow.

I made the attempt with this video from my travels around New England. I made this video before for my “Where in the State is Mom” website. [Comcast closed all the websites they supported last year.] There is music to accompany the photographs

You will see photographs of different types; my museum trips, cemetery, town halls, historical houses, churches, statues, main streets, back roads, tourist locations, gardens, bridges, scenic views and my friends from Texas and Australia. There is even a photograph of my daughter’s law school graduation included.

It was a special time sharing my beloved region with family and friends over the years. May this small piece of my collection bring you enjoyment.

My goal is to video story tidbits of my life and that of my ancestors.

It’s time to tell my ancestors story. I am a Family History Researcher doing my best in finding my ancestors. The names below are my direct line surnames for my mother, Shirley Beatrice Pease-Stearns.

I will be adding names to the list as I confirm them with sources, not just from on-line trees.

One Photograph – Many Clues

This one photograph gives many clues to the family’s lifestyle.

1. One child, Tyna, is a Brownie (Girl Scout Brownie emblem on the sweatshirt)
2. One is a playful child, Michael, (pulling Gina’s hair)
3.  One, Gina, likes Disney (sweatshirt emblem) and
4. Doesn’t like her hair pulled (who does)
5. There is a smoker in the household (ashtray on the chair arm)
6. Someone drinks soda, tonic, pop or carbonated beverage (depending on the geographical area you live in determines the name)
7. Someone like traditional furniture
8. The time of year must be the Fall or Winter season (Fall-Thanksgiving at my sister-in-law’s; Christmas was at my mother-in-law’s)
9. There is a game next to Tyna (early interactive one, I don’t remember which one)
10. I’m not sure if that is a jacket, sweater or throw over the arm of the chair (I think it is a jacket)

I have not added the living people names to the post at this time. [I do, in a private note on my Family Tree Program of choice.] This is one of many happy memories spent at my in-laws over the years.

Many things can be seen of the life style, yet the picture is not complete until we add those memories. Memories that tend to fade over the years.

Why not gather a few photos, the family and share those memories. If you can’t get together, maybe share on social media and see what reaction you get. I know two of the three use social media. I will see what a “Throw Back Thursday” post will bring in the way of reaction or memories. Don’t forget to tag them if they are comfortable with that.

 

Quick Tip: NMI Means?

What does “NMI” stand for in this photo. It means he did not have a middle name. NMI = No Middle Initial. I do have the persons birth certificate and marriage record stating he had no middle name.

I could have left his name as James Junkins with a note that he has no middle name. This was a visual reminder when I was research his records that he had no middle name.

When I searched I used different variants of his name, as I would any person in my tree.

 

Tree Under Review: Sources Available Upon Request

My Ancestry Tree is my research tree. The sources need to be cleaned up from when I first started my tree, again, on Ancestry in March 2010. [I had used it in the late 1990’s, but found I had more information than they did. Not understanding the full concept back then, I felt I was paying them for me to add my own research to their program. I know understand the importance of sharing information and supporting the FREE Ancestry services made available.]

Many of my sources are just links in the notes section. [I need to format a source citation for them. I’m still learning that process.) I, also,  have paper sources on file in my private collection. I am slowly working on cleaning up my family tree and sources. I made the mistake of inviting someone to add the cousin line to my tree. I quickly learned that was not a good idea.

To make my job easier and to let others know I have sources, for my direct line at least, I have chosen to add the following graphic to my direct line ancestors. I’m not sure if it works those that are not a member, even through my tree is public.]

You can easily tell who are my direct line ancestors and my cousin lines. I have source citations done for the first five generations.  I’m adding them to my Family Tree Program of my choice first. I will update the Ancestry a little at a time. I do have sources for other generations and some citations done. It is a slow tedious learning curve, for me, in regards to writing the citations. Please bear with me. If you are a cousin line of mine, PLEASE contact me at damegussie@gmail.com for sources. I may or may not have the citations complete, but I will gladly provide the information on non-living relatives in my possession.

Bucket List- What I’ve done

My friend, Tina Hitchock, posted a Bucket List challenge on Facebook. I decided I would take it. I was surprised at what I did over the years. There are many more things I have done than what is on the list. The memories that came flooding back when I read the list were very precious times I spent with my family.

The photos is of me having my radiation treatment in 2006. It is why I needed a tattoo. They tattoo the area that needs radiation for precision targeting.

Way Back Memories: Part 2

I was a very inconsistent blogger back then. Most of my posts were on the Where in the State is Mom Facebook page.

18 April 2013 was a very important day in my life. I attended NERGC 2013 Special Interest Group (SIG) gathering at the invitation of Heather Rojo Wilkinson. The SIG was about blogging about genealogy. The rest as they say is history. I’m still an inconsistent blogger.  I have taken on the challenge to blog the 365 days of  June in 2016; as it turns out 2016 is a Leap year, the days of blogging will be 366.

 

I have returned to blog about whatever comes to mind. It may be about the the Historical subjective novel I am writing of Isaac and Mary Stearns decision to come to the Massachusetts Bay Colony in 1630. It might be about my ancestral journey as I search for those who came before me. I could surprise you with where I spent my day; the interesting people I meet along my journey called life; or just something that caught my eye that I think you will find interesting..

today I am posting photographs showing the breath taking view from the 12th floor Presidential Suite of the Raddison Hotel in Manchester, New Hampshire. The New England Genealogist Conference and Expo is going on this weekend. Great workshops, interesting people and lots of goodies at the Expo. The Expo is free to everyone.

My Very First Blog Posts Revisited

My very first blog post was written on Blogger 30 Sept 2009. The blogger site name was/is “Where in the State is Mom.”

I wrote a very short note “I’m Waiting.” 

“I will start posting more info when a have a follower or two. Please come join me on my New Hampshire adventure.” No photos, just a quick two sentence post. The next two post were about why I started the blog; “Where is in the State is Mom?” and  “Where in the State is Mom? 13 Sept 2009” . Not knowing any better I posted two blogs on the same day and time.

I’ve come a long way since then. I still have much to learn.

I will be revisiting some of my earlier post over the next few days. While my Brain is resting from its concussion. I hope you enjoy the way back memories of days gone by. My where in the State is Mom Blog Post soon turned into a Facebook Page.

 

 

Guess who is on Brain Rest precautions, again?

this is a transcription of my Facebook. I will be on Brain rest for the next few days. i will make short posts of updates to continue my 365 days posting. the photos will be one of mine from the past.

I did a stupid thing thinking. I thought I could walk without a walker or a cane. I proved i couldn’t. I fell. Not injuries, just a little concussion.

Brain rest means little watching Television, Webinars, reading, rest and no exercise.

Call the doctor again in the morning if a visit is needed. If any vomiting other than my normal nausea go to the emergency room.

Night everyone. Don’t worry if you don’t see me on here for a few days.
